Institute of Engineering Division of Advanced Mechanical Systems Engineering Professor Hiroyuki Sasahara received the FA Foundation Paper Award on December 5, 2025.

■Name of award
FA Foundation Paper Award

■Award summary
?Award title
"Block processing time-based programming for high-speed, high-precision 5-axis machining (Precision Engineering, 88, 2024)"

?Outline of the award
The award is given to researchers or engineers from universities, public research institutes, and companies who have written papers that are recognized as being highly original and of high industrial value in the fields of factory automation, industrial robots, and related technologies.

CNC (numerically controlled) machine tools are used to machine a wide variety of parts and molds, from aircraft and automobiles to home appliances and smartphones. In recent years, machining using 5-axis machine tools (3 linear axes + 2 rotary axes) has become increasingly common. Research into a new programming method based on CNC block processing time, which allows for faster and more accurate 5-axis machining, has been recognized as leading to technology for manufacturing more sophisticated industrial products.
